Castrovecchio is the medieval and oldest part of Capranica. Its narrow, winding streets, small piazzas and noble palazzi are guarded by precipitous drops and formidable defence walls within two main gates: Porta San Pietro on the east, built into a wall high above the Via Cassia, and Porta del Ponte (dell’Orologio) on the west, where it blends with the ancient Anguillara castle.

Via Francigena, the great medieval pilgrimage route, which led from the English cathedral city of Canterbury through Switzerland and France to Rome, still runs alongside Capranica’s town walls and precipitous escarpments, just below them, and pilgrims still walk along it today. From Capranica you can take one of these routes and heading to the Ancient small town of Sutri. The trail deep in the green woods is 8km long (2.5 hours) with a difference in altitude of 100 meter.
Lake Vico is a volcanic lake located at the center of the Cimini Mountains and is a protected natural area. The lake is a popular destination in both summer and winter. Sunbathing by the lake, diving in clear water, outdoor activities, excursions by canoe or take sailing lessons, these are just some of the activities proposed by Lake Vico. Along lake banks there are huts for birdwatching and the surrounding woods are crossed by hiking trails, and trail rides (biking, horseback riding).
